The Little Toot

George Meyer was an accomplished scale model airplane builder and sheet metal craftsman. He built a 1/24 scale model of his Little Toot before starting construction of the full sized version. The wing construction is conventional wood and fabric. The fuselage construction is steel tube for the cockpit forward and aluminum monocoque aft of the cockpit. When George later decided to sell plans for the Little Toot, he included both his original fuselage design and an alternate design using steel tube for the aft fuselage. The Little Toot is fully aerobatic with a load limit of +/- 10 G at 1350 lb. The original Little Toot was somewhat underpowered with its C-90 engine. Today, Little Toots are powered with engines ranging from the C-90 to the Lycoming O-360. There are only about 30 or so Little Toots flying today but several are under construction. George Meyer sold his original Little Toot in the late 70's and succumbed to lung cancer in 1982. In 1992, George's son, Tommy, bought the plane back and restored it to its present beautiful condition. The airplane pictured in the scrapbook is that plane.
