This airplane won Reserve Grand Champion Classic at Oshkosh in 1995. Still, however, many otherwise knowledgeable aviation aficionados can not correctly identify it.
It is a Funk, a Funk B85C to be exact. This one rolled off the assembly line of the Funk Aircraft Company in 1948 and was the last airplane to do so. The serial number is 438. The Funk brothers kept this one for themselves until 1958 when they sold it to Orlo Maxfield, the father of the current owner, John Maxfield. The airplane served Orlo and his family well for many years but fell into disuse when the fabric started deteriorating. In the early 90's, Orlo and son John restored the airplane to its present beautiful condition. I put together this brief history of the Funk Aircraft Company.
