This pretty plans-built Hatz was recently completed by Carroll Cheek of Hilltop Lakes, Texas. Carroll finished the FAA mandated fly-off time for his Hatz just in time to fly it to Oshkosh. Remarkably, Carroll built this plane in just 11 months. His neighbor, who was also at the show, remarked that Carroll sort of disappeared into his workshop and emerged 11 months later with the completed plane.
Carroll's cylindrical engine cowling gives the appearance of a coweled radial but the off-center prop tells a different story. The engine is a 145 hp Continental 0-300. There are quite a few Hatz on the field and we'll look at a few more later. Meanwhile, it looks like rapidly darkening skies in the southwest.
